Located in the heart of the central High Atlas mountains, the Aït Bougmez, or “Happy Valley,” offers a stunning hiking experience. This valley, overlooked by the towering M’Goun range, is home to a rich Berber culture and thirty beautiful villages situated between 1800 and 2100 meters. As you trek through this fertile land, you’ll see vast cultivated terraces, groves of walnut trees, and villages with unique flat-roofed architecture. The landscape is a vibrant mosaic of green fields, dry stone walls, and rocky outcrops, where you can even find dinosaur footprints. The trek, which includes a comfortable stay in a traditional house-inn and a peaceful journey by mule, is a fantastic opportunity to meet the local population and discover highlights like the Ouzoud waterfalls, the collective attic of Sidi Moussa, and the dramatic gorges of Magun.
